Barakat India programs are proud to welcome a new Program Director, Mr. Shailendra Kumar. Shailendraji, as he is known, is originally from Sitamarhi district of Bihar, and has been active in the field of social work for the last fifteen years.
Prior to joining us, he was working with a French NGO supervising a rehabilitation and reconstruction project in the flood-affected areas of Madhubani district, Bihar. He has extensive experience not only in hands-on management of social work projects, but also in running awareness-raising campaigns through print and television media. He has worked as a journalist with national Hindi newspapers and as a reporter with the popular India television network, ETV, which broadcasts in 12 regional languages across the length and breadth of the country.
Throughout the course of his career, Shailendraji has been motivated to seek out and highlight the plight of the rural poor, whether through his journalistic endeavors or through direct service in the non profit sector. He is at home in North India and is as familiar and comfortable with Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh as he was in Bihar. A soft spoken, intelligent person, we believe that he has the vision to guide Barakat India's educational programs in a way that will resonate with the target population, while also winning support from potential donor groups within India.
Shailendraji will be accompanied to his post in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh, by his wife and two small daughters.
