Besh Kapa Schedule
Besh Kapa Surkh School
Besh Kapa Surkh School, Aqcha, Jowzjan
In Aqcha schools have a long winter break from 22nd December up till the day after Nouroz, the ancient Persian New Year, normally around 21st March. The other long holidays are in the beginning of October during Roza Id for four days, as well as another four-day break during the second week of December for Qurban Id.

The school has a five and a half day working week, Friday is a holiday, Thursday is a half-day with school till 1:00pm.

Besh Kapa Teacher Training
In Aqcha, all nine teachers at the school attend regular teacher training provided by the government of Afghanistan at the Dar Mualimin or Education Center in Andkhoy. The teacher training is given five days per week for two hours for a two year period. The aim of the teacher trainings is to increase the content knowledge of the teachers so that they can be qualified to teach not only as primary school teachers, but also as subject teachers for higher classes.

Besh Kapa Infrastructure
A ready Response
A ready response
  • 9 classrooms
  • 2 toilets with showers for teachers
  • 10 toilets for students, 5 for girls, 5 for boys
  • As is the case in Andkhoy, in Aqcha drinking water is brought by tankers once a month and stored in a water depot in the school.

Besh Kapa Future Plans
  • Purchase a sturdy and spacious vehicle in order to transport teachers to and from their homes and school after Nouroz, the ancient Persian New Year. This facility is particularly appreciated by the teachers at Mullah Kareem Nazar School where it was started in 2006. Furthermore, school transportation ensures that teachers do not get delayed coming into school every day.
  • Prepare uniforms and textbooks for the hundred new students anticipated in the latest 2008-09 school session.
  • Increase female participation in school by creating two sections for each grade, one for girls and one for boys.
  • Two separate Parent Teacher Association (PTA) meeting sessions will be held as of this year, one for women and one for men. During the PTA sessions women will also be provided a health check-up in the school by the doctor. This will serve as incentive to promote participation of women in PTA meetings who will otherwise be reluctant or unable to attend.
  • Provide regular teacher training and refresher courses.
  • Augment the school by a grade level each year until 9th grade.
  • Hire new teachers and increase student population accordingly.
  • Construct new classrooms off the existing building in order to accommodate greater student volume or create two school shifts/day.
  • Prepare the existing school ground as a playing field for volleyball and badminton.
  • Prepare teams and uniforms for sports.
  • Augment existing school land by buying land or receiving land as a donation from neighbors in order to increase the size of the playing field.
  • Follow this with the construction of a boundary wall around the entire playing field and prepare a soccer ground as well.
  • Provide scholarships to children based on merit and their need for higher education at the school and university level.
  • Research vocational skills training and technical training in relevant subjects with an eye towards future employment possibilities for the students.
  • Prepare a library that affords children access to high-quality reading materials.
  • Begin classes in Turkmen once a suitable teacher has been found.
